New Emergency Foreclosure Assistance Fund

The landmark joint federal-state settlement involving the nation’s five largest mortgage servicers has provided additional resources for foreclosure prevention services in Iowa through the Iowa Mortgage Help initiative.

A new tool is now available to eligible homeowners through the new Emergency Foreclosure Assistance Fund. This fund may assist homeowners in filling gaps to make their mortgage payment with up to $2,000 in assistance. The program could help approximately 500 Iowa homeowners avoid default or foreclosure.

Iowa homeowners who are behind on their mortgage or feel that they may soon be are encouraged to seek help by calling the toll-free Iowa Mortgage Help hotline at 877-622-4866 or visiting the web site for further information. The Iowa Mortgage Help initiative is a partnership between the Iowa Attorney General’s Office and the Iowa Finance Authority that offers Iowa homeowners free, confidential help from local, trained counselors.

If you are aware of Iowans struggling to pay their home mortgage, spread the word about this new program that will help eligible homeowners fill the gap and avoid foreclosure.
